Description
Scientific Name: Omothymus violaceopes
Previous Scientific Name: Lampropelma violaceopes
Common names: Singapore Blue
Another blue beauty in the world of Tarantulas. The Singapore Blue is an Old World arboreal bird spider that grows fast and grows large. It has a relatively small body compared to it’s long outstretched and feathery looking blue legs and can move with considerable speed.
They are generally quite shy and spend a lot of time in their arboreal shelters, but we have seen that once they become accustomed to the room they’re kept in, they slowly get bolder and braver and can be seen out and about quite often, only retreating with a disturbance. From sling to adult, they are voracious feeders and almost never turn down a meal which probably adds to why they grow so fast.
All things fair, this is still an Old World Tarantula and should be respected as such. They have a painful bite simply due to the sheer size of their fangs, which with some added Old World Venom is going to ruin your day completely, so always take care when working with your Lampropelma violaceopes.
