Description

Scientific Name: Chilobrachys huahini

Common Names: Asian Fawn | Thai Red | Hauhini Bird Spider | Hauhini Bird Eater

Not for beginners. The Asian Fawn is a fast growing, super-fast moving old world tarantula species, like many of their cousins, they are also fossorial and tend to be a pet hole and it will seldom venture outside of it’s burrow, except late at night or when on the prowl for a meal. For us here in South Africa, this species is labelled  as the “Legal OBT”, displaying the same cheeky and high spirited, fast moving aggressive nature so common with the Pterinochilus murinus – Orange Baboon Tarantula. A stunning smooth beige to orange spider at full size that is really quite stunning after a fresh molt. Definitely an exotic and vicious addition for any collection.

Males have sexual di-morphism and look completely different to the females after their ultimate molt.

The enclosure setup for Chilobrachys huahini should have at least 15 to 20cm of substrate to allow burrowing as well as a lot of structure for webbing. Don’t forget your rudimentary water dish.
