Description

Scientific Name: Avicularia purpurea

Common names: Purple Pink Toe Tarantula

A beautiful new world arboreal species from the Amazonas area of Ecuador. Appearing to be jet black in appearance, closer inspection under good lighting will reveal the intense purple coloration of the Purple Pink Toe Tarantula. Voracious feeders that grow very quickly in the right conditions. As with most Avicularia species, close attention must be given to the humidity and air flow of it’s enclosure where the air flow must be high yes still maintaining high humidity as well.

Unfortunately, this species is known to suffer from a condition called S.A.D.S. – Sudden Avicularia Death Syndrome. We believe this is due to people keeping them in excessively humid environments without adequate ventilation. It’s the keeper’s task to ensure that this species has adequate humidity, but also with plenty of ventilation to prevent over humidifying the enclosure.
